Good Shot

2025

OVERVIEW

In the Nickerson Gardens of Watts, Maxwell Henderson is a neighbourhood basketball legend — a living room full of trophies, and a lifetime of using the game to mask deeper pain. Good Shot follows Maxwell's search for redemption as a father while reckoning with his past, building a portrait of purpose, parenthood, and community out of eight years of trust between filmmaker and subject. It's a raw, deeply human story about potential, reality, and the rare moments we try to do things differently.

Directed by Joris Debeij in his feature debut and produced by NBA star Stephen Curry among others, the documentary is a co-production of Westbrook Studios with RTG Features, Religion of Sports, Unanimous Media, and Iconoclast. It premiered at the American Black Film Festival in 2025 — a festival launch that placed it in front of exactly the audience its story speaks to.
